What You'll Be Doing:
As the Farm Operations Manager, you'll be the cornerstone of the farm's success, overseeing every aspect of its operations. You'll work closely with the General Manager Farms, playing a pivotal role in:
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Implement cutting-edge seasonal production plans, embracing new practices, techniques, and products to boost yields and quality.
  • End-to-End Farm Management: Guide all general farming practices, from ground preparation and establishment to growing and harvest.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire, manage, and train a cohesive team of permanent staff, contractors, and casual labour, fostering a collaborative environment focused on shared goals.
  • Irrigation Mastery: Manage and maintain sophisticated irrigation infrastructure, including soil monitoring and scheduling, to optimize water usage.
  • Crop Health & Nutrition: Conduct regular pest and disease inspections, perform leaf and soil tests, and ensure optimal plant nutrition.
  • Asset Management: Oversee the appropriate maintenance of all farm plant and equipment.
  • Financial Stewardship: Develop, agree upon, and meticulously manage the farm budget, ensuring cost-effective horticultural programs.
  • Safety Champion: Deliver and uphold a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Record and report key operational data, including irrigation, nutrition, and crop estimates.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers, neighbours, industry associations, and customers.
What You'll Bring:
We're looking for a leader with extensive horticultural expertise, particularly in berry production. Your skills and knowledge will include:
  • Proven Horticultural Management: Extensive experience coordinating and managing staff and contractors within the horticultural sector.
  • Berry Production Acumen: Specific experience in berry cultivation.
  • Irrigation Systems: Strong practical and technical knowledge of irrigation systems and substrate production.
  • Financial Savvy: Experience working with farm production plans and managing budgets, with a focus on cost-effective program implementation.
  • Maintenance Expertise: Proven ability to implement farm maintenance plans.
  • Crop Protection: Skilled in pest and disease identification.
  • Farm Equipment Proficiency: Knowledge of farm equipment operation.
  • Yield & Harvest Expertise: Experience in yield estimation and harvesting practices.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other industry-specific software.
  • Communication & Organization: Comprehensive communication skills and effective time management and organizational abilities.
  • Reporting & Record-Keeping: Experience in report compilation and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Essential Licences: A current driver’s license.
Desirable, but not essential:
  • A Degree or Diploma in Horticulture.
  • Occupational or Remote first aid certification.
  • An HR driver’s license.
