Key tasks will be focussed on driving best production practices of the farm and leading a cohesive team working towards common goals to maximise efficiency.
The role will be vital in ensuring that the farm meets company performance targets in terms of production, quality and safety. The Farm Operations Manager will be responsible for management of all farm operations including irrigation, coordination of site contractors and staff and all associated administration responsibilities in line with this role.
Reporting to the General Manager Farms you will be involved in key establishment, production, maintenance, harvest and operational aspects of the farm.
Duties include:
- Implementing a comprehensive seasonal farm production plan including new practices techniques and products to enhance general returns by way of yields and quality.
- Oversee all general farming practices for the farm from ground preparation, establishment, growing and harvest. Management and training of the permanent farm staff, contractors, labour hire and casual staff.
- Manage the irrigation infrastructure, soil monitoring, scheduling and maintenance.
- Carry out regular pest and disease inspections, leaf and soil tests for plant nutrition
- Ensure the appropriate maintenance of farm plant and equipment
- Manage, implement and maintain the farm budget
- Deliver and achieve a safe working environment
- Develop and agree the farm budget and monitor and deliver that budget
- Recording and reporting of key data – ie; irrigation, nutrition, crop estimates etc.
- Implement production plan within time frames
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, neighbours, industry associations and customers.
- Extensive experience in Horticultural Management
- Experience in coordinating and managing staff and contractors
- Experience in berry production
- Irrigation
- Working with farm production plans and budgets.
- Experience in implementing farm maintenance plans
- Cost effective implementation of horticultural programs
- Pest and disease identification
- Farm equipment and operation
- Yield estimation and Harvesting
- Ability to use Microsoft Office and other industry software
- Current driver’s license
- Practical technical horticultural skills/ knowledge of irrigation systems
- Comprehensive communication skills
- Effective time management and organisational skills
- Experience in report compilation and record keeping
- Desirable:
- Degree or Diploma in Horticulture
- Occupational or Remote first aid
- HR driver’s license
