The location benefits from the trifecta of fertile soil types, an excellent climate and secure irrigated water.
Substantial water allocations include over 3000mgL, annual rainfall of 685mm and significant combined on-farm water storage of 14,000mgL.
Cropping land has been extensively developed, producing cotton, sorghum and mung beans on 1,000ha of irrigation, as well as wheat, barley, chickpeas, sorghum, cotton and oats across 6,852ha of dryland operations. Sustainability focused with integrated regenerative farming practices and carbon credit programs incorporated into agronomy programs.
Extensive integrated grain storage complex with a combined capacity of 8000t. Much of the operational infrastructure is new or recently upgraded and designed to meet the long term requirements of the business and it's workforce.
This position presents a rare opportunity for an Irrigated Farm Manager to put their mark on this business to drive profitability with a committed team adopting modern farming practices, cutting edge technology and latest hi tech machinery.
Essential Knowledge and skills:
- To be successful in the role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Have considerable experience as an Irrigated Cropping Manager on a modern large scale row cropping operation. Proven ability to manage large scale irrigation systems to maximise yields across the farm and water use efficiency.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of agronomy, timing and seasonal operations like ground preparation, seeding, spraying, harvesting, grain storage and logistics.
- Experience in machinery set up, calibrations, operations, trouble shooting and maintenance.
- Self-starting, high levels of accountability, motivation and ability to deliver to deadlines.
- Experience leading a dedicated team of workers to a common goal, including permanent staff and contractors.
- Ability to capture and manage accurate data for business forecasting and budgeting ( irrigation, chemicals, nutrition, moisture monitoring, fuel, crop estimates, grain storage) through AgWorld and John Deere Ops Centre or other similar software.
- Strong communication skills for clear reporting, transparency of operations and for safety purposes.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships and build a strong community.
- Prior involvement in the development of annual cropping plans and ensuring activities are managed within the confines of those approved budgets.
- Willing to implement and achieve positive environmental objectives for the farm.
- Leading by example in supporting a great culture to maintain and enhance health and safety on farm.
- Degree or Diploma in Agriculture
- First Aid
- Mechanical / fabrication knowledge
- truck licence
