Our client runs an irrigated cotton 3000ha and dry land 14,000ha cropping farm in the St George region of QLD.
We are seeking an Assistant Farm Manager to assist with and supervise all facets of the operation.
The scope of the position is to be responsible for the daily operation of the farm with a focus on maximising quality and production.

Reporting to the Manager and you will be involved in all key establishment, production, maintenance, and operational aspects of both the irrigated and dry land enterprises. The Assistant Farm Manager will be responsible for assisting with management of all farm operations including coordination of site contractors and staff and all associated administration responsibilities in line with this role.
 
Duties include:
  • Assist in managing all farming practices for the property
  • Manage the irrigation scheduling for the farm
  • Carry out regular cotton pest and disease inspections
  • Ensure the appropriate maintenance of farm plant and equipment
  • Manage, implement and maintain the farm budget
  • Deliver and achieve a safe working site
  • Develop and agree the budget and monitor and deliver that budget
  • Recording and reporting of key data - ie; irrigation, chemicals, nutrition, crop estimates etc.
  • Implement work program within time frames
  • Supervise personnel and contractors
  • Maintaining the assets to agreed levels
Knowledge in:
  • Pest and disease identification
  • Crop forecasting
  • Cost effective implementation of farm programs
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems -furrow irrigation
  • Flood lifter pump maintenance experience
  • Yield estimation
  • Harvesting
Essential knowledge and skills:
  • Experience in irrigated cotton farm management
  • Pest and disease identification
  • Farm equipment and operation
  • Harvesting
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office
  • Current driver's license
  • Manage staff 
  • Work alongside and administer seasonal staff
  • Practical technical farm skills
  • Comprehensive communication skills
  • Effective time management and organisational skills
  • Experience in report compilation and record keeping
  • Welding and fabrication ability (advantage)
  • Be able to operate row crop tractors with GPS guidance
  • The job comes with an air conditioned home and a farm vehicle.
Desirable:
  • Degree or Diploma in Agriculture
  • First Aid
  • HR driver's license
