Our client is a dynamic and rapidly expanding company specializing in the cultivation of Indian Sandalwood. In this tropical location irrigated forestry and cutting edge crop production technology combine to produce one of the most unique forestry projects in Australia. The position of Research and Forester requires the incumbent to carry out applied field research to maximize growth rates and improve production efficiencies. The work includes efficacy trials for new irrigation, nutrition, crop protection and harvesting techniques. The findings of these trials will be used to maximise plant growth rates and will be incorporated in to the long term operations. You will also be collaborating with recognized research institutions to identify the best possible methods to conduct and carry out the research to the highest of standards. Duties include:
- Align research with key business objectives for the plantations
- Manage and Implement the regional research program for the plantations.
- Designing replicated trial plots within the plantation under instruction from the management team
- Create sample plots in the plantation for monitoring and measurement.
- Establish trial plots and conduct trial work in the field, this may involve some manual work and supervision of workers to carry out plantation operations on those plots.
- Collect, store, analyse, interpret and field-based technical data
- Write reports outlining key research findings
- Be able to use mathematical models and statistically analyse data
- Represent the company as a technical expert at industry forums.
