Our client operates a modern orchard located in the Riverland region of South Australia.
The region is renowned for it's climate and producing high quality horticultural products.  They require an Orchard Manager with a good understanding of agronomy, irrigation and production of tree crops who will be responsible for the farming operations.
  
Your primary function will be to plan and coordinate farming operations to meet the overall farm plan production goals. You will Co-ordinate operational plans so that they are consistent with strategies and make effective use of resources available to meet company production targets. Experience in farm management, irrigation, harvesting, agronomy, people management, planning and coordinating farm activities in an agribusiness environment are essential.

The orchard produces high quality produce which has been professionally established and managed and the property has further growth potential.

Duties include:
  • Manage all orchard and general agronomy/farming practices for the property to enhance general returns by way of yields and quality.
  • Management of the orchard staff
  • Manage the irrigation scheduling for the orchard 
  • Carry out regular plantation pest and disease inspections, leaf and soil tests for plant nutrition
  • Ensure the appropriate maintenance of plantation plant and equipment
  • Manage, implement and maintain the plantation budget
  • Deliver and achieve a safe working site
  • Develop and agree the budget and monitor and deliver that budget
  • Recording and reporting of key data – ie; irrigation, nutrition, crop estimates etc.
  • Implement work program within time frames
  • Supervision of personnel and contractors
  • Maintaining the assets to agreed levels
Knowledge in:
  • Irrigation
  • Pest and disease identification
  • Crop forecasting
  • Cost effective implementation of horticultural programs
  • Yield estimation
Essential knowledge and skills:
  • Extensive experience in Agricultural or Horticultural Management or equivalent relevant experience
  • Pest and disease identification
  • Orchard equipment and operation
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office
  • Current driver’s license
  • Experience in coordinating and managing staff
  • Practical technical horticultural skills/ knowledge of drip irrigation systems
  • Comprehensive communication skills
