Our client manages one of the largest commercial horticultural operations in the MIA. With a massive project in the ground we are now searching for an Irrigation Manager to join their professional team.
The scope of the position is to manage the Irrigation team with a view to ensure that the irrigation and fertigation programs are carried out on time and to company standards. The role will be vital in ensuring that the established plantations and existing projects meet company performance targets in terms of plant growth, production and quality.
 
Reporting to the Farm Operations Manager and working closely with the Senior Agronomist you will be involved in managing the irrigation team for the business. You will be responsible for all irrigation aspects for the orchard including -storage, pumps, filtration, fertigation, pipes and maintenance.  
The Irrigation Manager will be responsible for management of all Irrigation infrastructure, budgets, monitoring, scheduling, reporting and irrigation staff. This will include coordination of site contractors and associated trades required to ensure the system runs efficiently and reliably.

On offer: base salary, plus super and a 4 bedroom house including all electricity/water, car & phone

Duties include:

  • Manage all irrigation infrastructure including dams, pipes, filters, fertigation injection systems, pumps, bores etc
  • Ensure irrigation system runs smoothly and effectively.
  • Adopt new technology and techniques to save costs, improve reliability and performance.
  • Management of the Irrigation team, and contracting staff
  • Manage the irrigation scheduling for the plantation
  • Ensure the appropriate maintenance of plant and equipment
  • Manage, implement and maintain the irrigation budget
  • Maintain relationships with irrigation industry contacts and key suppliers
  • Deliver and achieve a safe working site
  • Develop and agree the budget and monitor and deliver that budget
  • Recording and reporting of key data – ie; weather,  irrigation, fertigation,
  • Implement work program within time frames
  • Employment of personnel and contractors
  • Specification and supervision of the above
  • Maintaining the assets to agreed levels
  • Experience in budgeting principles and financial procedures for cost control of projects
  • Comprehensive communication skills
  • Effective time management and organisational skills
  • Experience in report compilation and record keeping
Essential knowledge and skills:
  • Extensive experience in Horticultural Irrigation Management
  • Extensive modern computerised drip irrigation knowledge
Demonstrated high level of management skills: 
  • Use of orchard equipment, machinery operation and maintenance
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and irrigation software
  • Current driver’s license
  • Comprehensive communication skills
