Our client manages one of the largest commercial horticultural operations in the MIA, and are seeking a Farm Operations Manager for their state of the art project.

The Farm Operations Manager will be a hands-on, strategic thinker with demonstrated people, leadership skills and operational management experience. This role will oversee operations to ensure production efficiency, quality, services and cost effective management of resources (including plant, equipment and human resources). The role will also manage overall day-to-day operations and supervision of direct reports to meet the needs of the production schedule.
 
Purpose:
  • To be responsible for effectively planning, directing and coordination of Farm Operational activities.
  • To guarantee the service level for Operational Farm, in terms of quality, efficiency and results orientated activities for the company.
  • To be the link between the field and office for Farm Operational activities.
Key Selection Criteria:

Essential
  • Diploma in Horticulture/Agriculture or Business or related qualifications and extensive or equivalent skills and knowledge.
  • AQF4 and AQF3 Chemical Accreditation
  • Extensive experience in providing practical advice, guidance and coaching on farms activities matters to managers and staff;
  • Extensive experience in farm machinery operations to guarantee the adequate use onsite.
  • Good working knowledge of WHS and other relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice. Encourage a strong Work Health and Safety culture in line with WHS systems, including but not limited to: WHS procedures and Policies.
  • Effectively lead and motivate the operational team.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills;
  • Analytical skills to manage budgets, business plans and reports. Computer literacy in farm management software and MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Ability to coach and empower employees and farm initiatives in line with  Group strategies.   
  • Analytical skills to maintain accurate farm records in irrigation, nursery, orchard and maintenance department. 
  • Be able to learn new skills and adopt new technology/work practices in line with Group strategies.  
  • Select, maintain and manage farm equipment and materials in line with the Agronomist requirement.
  • Implement company policies in regards to WHS system
  • Supply operational reports to the General Manager
  • Comply with environmental management systems
  • Be able to manage temporary workers to perform different activities, for example Labour Hire Workers
