Our client manages one of the largest commercial horticultural operations in NT.  We are now searching for a Crop Monitoring Officer  to join their professional team in Katherine.
 
They are seeking an individual who is passionate about horticultural production, crop protection and rural lifestyle in a hands on role. The position is varied and includes providing pest and disease monitoring for large scale plantations and working within the R&D team.  You will assist in the design and implement Integrated pest and disease control programs and ensure that they are carried out on time and on budget. You will also required to train and supervise contractors or temporary staff in monitoring and data collection activities.
Excellent organisational skills and record keeping are mandatory for this role.
 
Other duties include:
  • Undertake regular formal crop monitoring activities of plant health, silviculture and infrastructure
  • Identify potential research and development priorities for the company based on crop monitoring findings.
  • Facilitate research and development activities in the field.
  • Provide training and advice to operations staff in the detection of pests and diseases
  • Be responsible for the region's operations quality assessment of horticultural SOP's 
    Implement and ensure all approved SOP's are adhered to by all field operations
  • Undertake frequent and regular crop monitoring of plantations within the region so that plantation growth objectives are achieved.
  • Representing the company at relevant industry forums.
  • Facilitating new technology and procedures into the day to day operations of the plantation.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma / Degree of Applied Science in Horticulture /Agriculture an advantage
  • Experience in Horticultural Crop monitoring
  • Experience in horticultural crop protection and agronomy
  • Experience in developing IPM pest and disease control programs and strategies
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communicative skills, both written and verbal
  • Possess a current C class Driver's License
