Our client manages a state of the art commercial horticultural operation in the MIA region of New South Wales. We are now searching for an Assistant Manager to join their professional team.
The scope of the position is to assist with the establishment and management of a large scale horticultural project under drip irrigation. You will form part of the management team and will ensure that establishment/maintenance/production programs are carried out on time and to company standards. The role will be vital in ensuring that the plantation meets company performance targets in terms of growth, production and quality.
Reporting to the Farms Manager you will be involved in key establishment, maintenance and operational aspects of the plantation.
Duties include:
• General tractor work, spraying, pruning, slashing and farming practices for the property
• Training contractors and others in operations carried out on the property
• Irrigation scheduling, irrigation maintenance and repairs. Working knowledge of pumps and fertigation
• Carry out regular pest and disease inspections, leaf and soil tests for plant nutrition
• Ensure the appropriate maintenance of plant and equipment
Essential knowledge and skills:
• Experience in Agricultural or Horticultural or equivalent relevant experience
• Minimum two years' experience in a similar role
• Experience in budgeting principles and financial procedures for cost control of projects
• Ability to use Microsoft Office
• Current driver's license
• Experience in coordinating and managing staff
• Practical pest and disease knowledge
• Drip irrigation experience / fertigation experience
• Effective time management /organisational skills/ ability to work as part of a team
• Experience in report compilation and record keeping
Desirable:
• Degree or Diploma in Horticulture
• HR driver's license
